Cost and Eligibility

How services are paid for

Most often there is no cost to patients and families for hospice care, because most private insurance programs, as well as Medicare and Medicaid provide hospice benefits. Claims are submitted by Hospice of Montgomery (meaning no paperwork for you).

We also receive United Way funds and donations from the community to help the less fortunate, such as those who are uninsured.

Who is Eligible for Hospice Care

Any person in the River Region who has been diagnosed with a terminal condition qualifies for hospice. These conditions include diseases of the heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, cancer, Alzheimer’s, AIDS, stroke, Lou Gehrig’s disease, and a variety of other conditions. Once your doctor has made the referral, hospice can begin immediately.

Volunteering

The concept of hospice is based on the utilization of volunteers. Hospice of Montgomery was formed by a dedicated group of volunteers and we continue to depend on volunteers as an integral part of the Montgomery Hospice Team.

Hospice Home

Drawing of Future Hospice Home by Lee Sims of Barganier, Davis and Sims Architects We are excited about building the River Region's first Hospice Home! This home will serve patients who have no caregivers, or whose caregivers are unable to provide the level of care necessary to keep their loved ones at home. Patients can bring favorite items from home, beloved pets can visit, and family members and friends will be able to stay overnight. A reflection room will provide patients, family members, and guests a quiet, peaceful place for meditation and prayer. The beauty of nature and the peaceful sound of cascading water will be the focus of the...
